Leg 3 Cape Town to Albany Australia, Part 1

Crew ready to GO!

Crew ready to GO!

Race start is always interesting as we have a crew briefing where they tell us what to expect as far as weather, wind, the adventure of the sailing and the schedule.  Forecast for start of Leg 3 was prepare for 40 to 50 knot winds!!!  Expect to rock and roll through days of exciting wind and waves and lots of surfing the waves.  This section of the Southern Ocean is the one that will provide you a fantastic and fun Sleigh Ride.  After the mass Crew Brief we had our boat one with new Skipper Matt Mitchell.  He emphasized that we would most likely be in our foulies the whole leg and be ready for cold, rough action.  Be sure that you are double clipped on with your tethers (clip on from life jacket to strap that runs from bow to stern of boat)!  Not a problem for me as Nick A and Tony were already on my case to be safe!!  Cool, we are ready and have only a little trepidation to be doing this with someone we have not sailed with previously.  We believe in the team!! Cape Town, Robben Island

One last post prior to taking off on the Sydney Hobart Race tomorrow.  It has been amazing that everyone in Sydney seems to know about the race and are quite impressed when they find out we are part of it.  The guy at the Microsoft store was really excited to meet someone that was doing it!

One of the sight seeing adventures I did have was a trip to Robben Island, home of Nelson Mandela for the 18 years he was held as a political prisoner.  Javi and I checked it out together.  It was our last fun time other than Crew dinner later that night prior to his returning back to Munich and the birth of his first child. Cape Town Sightseeing Part 1

OK. I know I will not get up-to-date prior to starting out again tomorrow, but am trying!  These are from our Hop On Hop Off bus ride and a few from downtown.  We managed to miss any winery tours due to time. Continue reading

Cape Town Highlights

Going to try a new method today that Doug has taught me.  Everyone seems to really enjoy the pictures so I will try to give you some fun checking them out.  If you mouse over the picture you can read the caption (you might have to click on the first one) or you can click and bring up the picture and then view it like a slide show. Cape Town Local Entertainment

I was truly amazed at the marina we were in with the mall (a really big one) and the entertainment going on all the time and everywhere you wandered. I was especially enthralled with the marimba groups and how they were made and if the music was written in only one key since they had a different keyboard than ours. Continue reading

Cape Town South Africa Part 1

This is a place I am going to return to.  Watch out March 2017!   Amazing though with work on the boat I did not get to do nearly any sightseeing.  We were 5th to arrive and that was exciting!  It was several days prior to the last boat arriving.

First though have to share special Mother duty partner from  Leg 2.DSCF1235
